Fab is Epic's unified content marketplace, the successor to the Unreal Engine Marketplace, ArtStation Marketplace, the Sketchfab Store, and Quixel Megascans. The big draw for asset hunters is a permanently free Megascans starter pack of more than 1,500 hand-picked assets, plus surfaces, decals, and 3D scans, free to use in any engine. Note that the era of the entire Megascans library being free ended on December 31, 2024, and the full ~17,000-asset catalog is now paid, but Epic keeps that 1,500-asset starter set free and rotates a new "Limited-Time Free" drop every two weeks. Filter by the Creative Commons or free Standard license to stay budget-friendly, and check the license on each listing before shipping.

Reliability note (2026)
Mixamo is still online and free, but Adobe has not actively maintained it. Since a mid-2025 login outage the account page and auto-rigger have been intermittently broken, and Adobe support has told users it is effectively unsupported. It has not been shut down, but treat it as a fragile source: download and back up the animations you need rather than relying on it long-term. For auto-rigging specifically, newer open models like UniRig and NVIDIA SOMA-X are worth watching as replacements.

By 2026, generating an asset is often faster than hunting for the right free one. A few options worth knowing:
- 3D models: Meshy and Tripo turn text or an image into a textured, riggable mesh; both have free tiers, but commercial rights usually need a paid plan. Open, self-hostable options include Tencent's Hunyuan3D 2.1, Microsoft's TRELLIS.2, and Roblox's open-sourced Cube 3D. Note that Hunyuan3D's license excludes the EU, UK, and South Korea, so check terms before shipping.
- Textures and images: open image models like FLUX.2 and Qwen-Image generate tileable textures and concept art; the freely-commercial weights are the FLUX.2 klein 4B (Apache 2.0) and Qwen-Image variants.
- Audio: Stable Audio 3.0 (including a dedicated open sound-effects model) and ACE-Step 1.5 cover music and SFX with open weights, while ElevenLabs is the strongest hosted option (commercial rights on paid plans).
