Make your own game

The Night Watch was built by sag-klaefeli21 with the Cinevva game creator: describe the game you want in chat, watch it get built, and play it in your browser minutes later.

Remix The Night Watch opens the real game in the creator and forks its actual files, chat and design doc, so you start from the code rather than from a description.

Read the build brief for The Night Watch

Cinevva's analyzer read this game's design doc and its source, then wrote the brief below. "Make your own" hands it to the game creator as your opening message, so you start from a real spec rather than a one-line idea.

Create a playable 2D browser survival-horror game titled “THE NIGHT WATCH,” rendered on a full-screen pixelated HTML canvas with a dark monochrome/blue-gray CRT surveillance aesthetic. The game should feel like watching security feeds inside a quiet house during a long rainy night: use simple geometric pixel-art room illustrations, very dark charcoal backgrounds, gray-green highlights, scanlines, occasional screen flicker/static, subtle screen shake during events, and sparse monospace labels. Include a low rain/noise ambience and low electrical hum plus brief synthesized sounds for clicks, static, rain, creaks, pipes, doors, and ticks when possible.

Start on a centered title menu over a dim rainy-house background. Show the title “THE NIGHT WATCH,” subtitle “A quiet house. A long night. Watch carefully.”, buttons START NIGHT, HOW TO PLAY, SETTINGS, and CREDITS, and the footer “ORIGINAL MONOCHROME SURVIVAL HORROR.” HOW TO PLAY explains the actual rules: switch among nine cameras; reboot broken feeds or lights; the masked visitor follows the house layout rather than teleporting randomly; if he reaches the bedroom hallway, close the door and hide in the closet; watch the window and close the curtains if movement appears on the balcony; survive until 6:00 AM. Settings and credits can be informational modal cards matching the minimalist UI.

On START NIGHT, begin NIGHT 01 at 12:00 AM and run for six in-game hours, with the whole night lasting about six real minutes. Show the surveillance interface over the canvas: a top status bar with the clock, signal state, and selected camera name; a row/grid of nine numbered camera buttons; top-right LIGHT and REBOOT buttons; and bottom-left contextual buttons OPEN DOOR, LOOK OUT WINDOW, and CLOSET. Default to camera 06, BEDROOM. The nine feeds and labels are: 00 CELLAR, 01 FRONT DOORSTEP, 02 MAIN HALLWAY, 03 KITCHEN, 04 LIVING ROOM, 05 BATHROOM / STAIRS, 06 BEDROOM, 07 ATTIC, and 08 BEDROOM HALLWAY. Highlight the selected camera and show brief toast notifications for actions and events.

Draw each feed as a static, stylized, front-facing room illustration made from rectangles and lines, with a perspective-like floor/wall separation and scanlines: the cellar has storage shelves and pipes; the front doorstep has a dark door, porch, rain streaks, and step; the main hallway has doors and a cross-like wall detail; the kitchen has cabinets, counters and floor lines; the living room has couch/furniture, a dark TV/window area and shelving; the bathroom/stairs has tiled walls, a tub/sink-like fixture and stairs; the bedroom has a bed, a rain-streaked window, door/closet shapes and the label “BEDROOM • DOOR / CLOSET / WINDOW”; the attic has rafters and boxes; and the bedroom hallway has doors and a long dark corridor. The feed should include the black masked visitor whenever he occupies that camera: a simple tall black humanoid silhouette with round head, body, limbs, and a pale rectangular mask/face strip with tiny dark eye marks.

Implement the surveillance hazards and interactions exactly as follows. The LIGHT button toggles the light for the selected camera, but has a five-second cooldown. A light reveals detail; turning it off makes the feed dark. If that room’s light circuit is broken, show “LIGHT CIRCUIT FAILED — REBOOT REQUIRED” and do not toggle it. The REBOOT button restores a broken selected camera signal or broken selected light circuit; otherwise show “NO FAULT DETECTED.” Broken camera feeds become animated gray static with “SIGNAL ERROR”; broken lights are reported in the HUD as LIGHT FAULT. Camera and light faults occur occasionally at random during the night. Cellar and attic feeds become especially dark without their light, showing “CAMERA XX — TOO DARK.”

The visitor should move periodically through a connected house route rather than teleporting arbitrarily. Start him at the front doorstep (state/camera 01), then normally move to the main hallway (02). From there, route him either toward bathroom/stairs (05), or back through front door/kitchen/living-room areas, eventually reaching the bathroom/stairs, bedroom hallway (08), and attic (07). The visible silhouette should appear in the corresponding feed. Periodically notify the player with messages such as “FOOTSTEPS AT THE FRONT DOOR” and “BEDROOM HALLWAY MOTION.” There can also be rare faint sounds below the house and rare camera/static events.

In the bedroom, OPEN DOOR toggles the bedroom door and displays a flashlight-style view of the bedroom hallway. Opening it shows “BEDROOM DOOR OPEN — FLASHLIGHT ACTIVE”; closing it shows “BEDROOM DOOR CLOSED.” If the visitor is in the bedroom hallway when the door is opened, immediately begin the closet encounter and warn “A SHAPE IS IN THE HALLWAY — CLOSE THE DOOR.” The LOOK OUT WINDOW button toggles an exterior view labeled “OUTSIDE • RAIN / RESIDENTIAL STREET”: show rain, a moving moon whose position progresses over the night, neighboring balcony geometry, and occasionally a black figure on the balcony with “MOVEMENT ON THE NEIGHBORING BALCONY.” Retain the game’s actual dark visual language and simple geometry. The supplied logic has a curtains state initialized closed, but no separate curtain control is exposed; preserve the window interaction without inventing an extra curtain button.

When the closet encounter begins, hide the normal tablet view and draw a cramped dark closet interior with hanging/vertical boards, the title “INSIDE THE CLOSET,” and the instruction “SWIPE / CLICK TO CLEAR THE SPIDERS.” Spawn up to five outlined spiders at random positions. Let mouse/touch pointer clicks clear a spider when close enough, with a “SPIDER CLEARED” toast. After all spiders are cleared and enough time has passed, exit the closet and return the visitor to the safer starting route with “THE HOUSE IS QUIET AGAIN.” If the closet door shudders while spiders remain, fail the night and show a modal “NIGHT FAILED” with retry and main-menu options. Use responsive mouse/touch controls and large buttons suitable for a full-screen browser window.

If the player reaches the end of the six-minute night, stop the ambience and show a win modal titled “6:00 AM — SURVIVED” with the message “The first gray light reaches the roofs. The rain is still falling, but the house belongs to you again.” and a WATCH ANOTHER NIGHT button. On failure show “The house goes quiet again. The night was not survived.” with RETRY and MAIN MENU. Keep all visuals, HUD text, room names, sounds, and interactions understated, eerie, and monochrome rather than colorful or action-oriented.
