Arcade › Night Archive
Hello, Kindred! Click through a 2D haunted archive, moving from the outer court to the library, crypt, and final chamber. Each locked path gives you a lore question, and wrong answers drain your health or sanity before you can reach the end.

Click the game above and it runs right here in your browser. No download, no installer, no account needed. Jiffy Vortex built it with Cinevva, so it works on a phone or a tablet too.
Nobody has said anything about Night Archive yet. Play it, then tell Jiffy Vortex what you would add next.
Night Archive was built by Jiffy Vortex with the Cinevva game creator: describe the game you want in chat, watch it get built, and play it in your browser minutes later.
Remix Night Archive opens the real game in the creator and forks its actual files, chat and design doc, so you start from the code rather than from a description.
Cinevva's analyzer read this game's design doc and its source, then wrote the brief below. "Make your own" hands it to the game creator as your opening message, so you start from a real spec rather than a one-line idea.
Recreate a desktop/mobile 2D point-and-click gothic lore-quiz game titled "Night Archive." Use a full-screen HTML canvas with a dark atmospheric gradient background (deep purple at the top fading to near-black at the bottom), a few faint scattered star/dust specks, and an abstract connected route of large glowing circular rooms/nodes. The visual style is restrained gothic fantasy: dark plum/charcoal interiors, lavender-purple outlines and glow, cream Georgia/serif labels, muted lavender subtitles, and gold markers above lore-gate nodes. Do not use a character sprite; represent the player as a small pale cream circular marker with a darker purple outline that travels smoothly between nodes.
The game opens with a centered translucent dark modal titled "Night Archive". Explain that it is a 2D point-and-click gothic quiz crawl, that the player uses left click or tap only, and that wrong answers cost health or sanity. Include an "Enter the Archive" button and a small fan-themed tribute disclaimer. Once started, hide the modal and show the map.
Map layout: draw a horizontal/diagonal route of connected circular locations, scaled responsively to the viewport. The visible nodes, from left to right, are: "Outer Court" (subtitle "Start"), "Mansion Gate" ("Lore Gate"), "Great Library" ("Stacks"), "Index Shelf" ("Lore Gate"), "Crypt Passage" ("Vaults"), "Keeper" ("Lore Gate"), "Archive Seal" ("Lore Gate"), and "Final Chamber" ("Goal"). Add a branch from Archive Seal down to "Lore Relic" ("Bonus"). Connect them with thick rounded purple paths; locked connections should be darker and visibly subdued. Each node is a glowing filled circle with a purple stroke and centered serif label/subtitle. Lore-gate nodes have a small gold dot floating just above them, changing to a success color once solved. Highlight hovered nodes with a stronger lavender glow. Use responsive coordinate scaling so the route remains visible across screen sizes.
Place a fixed HUD over the canvas. In the upper-left, show a translucent rounded panel with large serif text: "Health: 3", "Sanity: 3", and "Keys: 0/3". In the upper-right, show Region and Objective in a matching panel. On narrow screens move this status panel to the lower-right/low area above the bottom prompt. At the bottom center, show a translucent prompt panel when hovering or moving, such as "Click Mansion Gate. Lore Gate." or "Moving toward Great Library." The initial objective is "Click the mansion gate." The player starts at Outer Court with health 3, sanity 3, and keys 0/3.
Controls must be pointer-only: left click on desktop or tap on touch hardware; no keyboard and no right-click. Clicking an available node sets it as the destination and makes the cream player marker move smoothly toward it. Clicking unavailable content displays a prompt saying the route is still locked and the next lore gate must be cleared. Gate nodes open a centered translucent quiz modal when the player arrives. The modal has a title, lore question, four clickable answer buttons, feedback text, and a "Step Back" button that closes it. Wrong answers leave the quiz open and display "Wrong answer. The night pushes back." while applying that gate's penalty; the player may try again. Correct answers display green "Correct." feedback plus the reward text, update state/HUD, then close after a short delay.
Implement this exact progression and question content:
1. At Mansion Gate, title "Mansion Threshold": ask "Which term refers to the code that hides vampiric existence from mortal society?" Options: "The Masquerade", "The Jyhad", "The Embrace", "The Beckoning". Correct answer is The Masquerade. Wrong answer costs 1 sanity. Correct text: "The gate unlocks and the library route opens." Set objective to "Cross into the library and inspect the index shelf." Unlock the route from Mansion Gate to Great Library.
2. At Index Shelf, title "Library Index": ask "Which sect is best known for upholding tradition, domain, and the rule of elders?" Options: "Camarilla", "Sabbat", "Anarchs", "The Second Inquisition". Correct answer is Camarilla. Wrong answer costs 1 sanity. Correct text: "A hidden drawer opens. You claim a sigil key and the crypt route unlocks." Award one key, set objective to "Move into the crypt and confront the keeper.", and unlock the Index Shelf-to-Crypt route.
3. At Keeper, title "Crypt Guardian": ask "What is the term for a vampire newly created by the Embrace?" Options: "Ghoul", "Childe", "Harpy", "Regent". Correct answer is Childe. Wrong answer costs 1 health. Correct text: "The keeper yields the second sigil and allows the archive approach." Award a second key, set objective to "Break the archive seal.", and unlock the route toward Archive Seal.
4. At Archive Seal, title "Final Seal": ask "Which clan is most often associated with art, passion, beauty, and obsession?" Options: "Nosferatu", "Toreador", "Gangrel", "Tremere". Correct answer is Toreador. Wrong answer costs 1 health and 1 sanity. Correct text: "The seal parts and the final chamber opens." Set keys to 3, set objective to "Enter the final chamber.", and unlock the route to Final Chamber and the relic branch.
5. After the Archive Seal is cleared, the optional Lore Relic becomes accessible. Its title is "Lore Relic": ask "Which clan is famously cursed with monstrous appearance and information networks?" Options: "Brujah", "Nosferatu", "Ventrue", "Malkavian". Correct answer is Nosferatu. Wrong answer costs 1 sanity. Correct text: "The relic steadies your mind. Gain 1 sanity." The relic is one-time-only and restores one sanity up to the maximum of 3. It is optional and does not award a key.
The available regions/objectives should update as the marker arrives: Outer Court; Great Library; Crypt Passage; and finally Final Chamber. Clicking the Final Chamber after the Archive Seal is solved wins immediately. Show a full-screen ending modal titled "Archive Reached" with text explaining that the player cleared the lore gates and reached the final chamber before health or sanity failed, plus a "Restart Route" button. If health or sanity reaches zero from an incorrect answer, stop the run and show an ending modal titled "Lost to the Night" with text saying health or sanity fell to zero and a restart button. Restart resets all flags, position, resources, objectives, and the map to the initial state.
Use translucent near-black panels with subtle lavender borders, rounded corners, blur/shadow, cream and lavender serif typography, lavender gradient quiz buttons, green success feedback, and pink/red danger feedback. Ensure touch-friendly buttons and responsive layout. The core goal is to click through the abstract map, answer the four vampire-lore gates, optionally use the relic for sanity recovery, and enter the Final Chamber with health and sanity remaining.
