Make your own game

Moonlit Year was built by MirageBurner Incase with the Cinevva game creator: describe the game you want in chat, watch it get built, and play it in your browser minutes later.

Remix Moonlit Year opens the real game in the creator and forks its actual files, chat and design doc, so you start from the code rather than from a description.

Read the build brief for Moonlit Year

Cinevva's analyzer read this game's design doc and its source, then wrote the brief below. "Make your own" hands it to the game creator as your opening message, so you start from a real spec rather than a one-line idea.

Create a 2D web visual novel/dating sim titled “Moonlit Year,” with a stylish supernatural school-life RPG presentation and no 3D gameplay. Use a pure DOM/CSS/JavaScript interface with a full-screen responsive layout, designed to work on both desktop and mobile tap controls.

Opening slice: begin on Tuesday, April 7, Day 1, in “Morning — Commute.” The protagonist is a transfer student arriving in rainy Hoshizora Ward. The opening narration reads in substance: rain hangs over the city like a held breath, flickering billboards welcome students back, and something under the train rails answers the protagonist’s pulse. Advance through a calendar-style visual-novel flow using clickable/tappable choices.

Visual direction: use a neon urban-fantasy palette of cyan, hot pink, violet, deep navy, black, and occasional gold. Backgrounds are illustrated with layered CSS gradients and abstract city/station treatments rather than detailed 3D scenes: a bright rainy commute with blue-to-lilac sky, a school scene with pale blue/pink light and subtle architectural linework, a bright courtyard, and a dark night city with cyan and pink neon glows. Add dark vignette shading, soft atmospheric overlays, a faint CRT scanline effect, translucent glassy panels, drop shadows, skewed polygon-like labels, and sharp futuristic typography similar to Orbitron paired with a clean sans-serif. The screenshot-like composition should have a top HUD, a large open central scene area, and a large dark dialogue panel along the bottom.

Top HUD: show “Tue 4/7” in cyan and the current time slot beneath it, initially “Morning — Commute,” inside a skewed pink-to-black translucent panel at upper left. At upper right show compact status pills including starting funds “¥3,000,” the current cast mode, and “CHEATS MENU: OFF.” The main scene should leave space for stylized character portraits in the center and a right-side panel on desktop.

Dialogue UI: place a large nearly black translucent textbox across the bottom with a magenta skewed speaker tag, dialogue in large white text, and a row or vertical stack of large accessible choice buttons. Choices should be the only primary controls for advancing. Show a brief full-screen calendar/time-slot transition when the slot changes, with “APRIL 7” and the new slot in large futuristic lettering. On mobile, stack choices vertically, make them at least finger-sized, allow scrolling, hide the side panel, and place the settings/utility button above the dialogue box.

Characters: use stylized portrait cards rather than photorealistic artwork. Each portrait is a large colored silhouette/card with a head-and-uniform shape, character initial, glowing accent, and name tag. Introduce these two classmates during the opening morning: Rei Shirogane, a severe occult-aware girl associated with the Moon arcana, with dark hair, navy uniform, and cyan accent; and Hana Mori, an energetic first friend associated with the Sun arcana, with brown hair, purple uniform, and gold accent. The tracked roster also includes Mika Arai (Star), Yuzu Kisaragi (Magician), Sera Kujo (Justice), Nami Fuyutsuki (Hermit), Ayame Tachibana (Empress), and Rika Nanase (Chariot).

Opening narrative and branching sequence:
1. Calendar scene: one choice, “Watch the calendar turn.”
2. Phone scene: the school app says “First day orientation. Keep your heart clean. Keep your secrets cleaner.” Offer “Step through the station gates” and “Open cheats first,” with the latter leading to a short explanatory scene before continuing.
3. Rei introduction at the schedule board: she says the player is blocking the board and asks whether they know which classroom has the broken clock and haunted window. Offer three meaningful choices: follow the person who knows (increase Rei affinity and Courage), apologize and ask for directions (increase Rei affinity and Kindness), or make a cocky boast (a risky/mean choice that normally harms affinity but can be made beneficial by an optional mode). Follow each into a short Rei response, then “Enter homeroom.”
4. Hana introduction in the classroom: she saved the player the least-wobbly desk and immediately declares them friends. Offer friendly, careful/observant, and cocky responses that affect Hana affinity and a social stat. Then proceed through orientation to the first free-time slot.

Time and exploration flow: after orientation, show “After School” in the courtyard and explain that selecting an activity advances time to Evening/Night. Provide these routes:
- Hang out with Rei by the sealed music room. She warns about a red-cord-wrapped door and a violin that should not be answered. Choices increase Rei affinity and possibly Courage, then trigger a hidden-rank attempt.
- Help Hana set up a welcome booth. Choices focus on designing a bold poster, carrying heavy boxes, or making a cocky promise; affect Hana affinity and Charm or Proficiency.
- Text Mika, Yuzu, Sera, or Rika. Present four phone messages: Mika saw the moon move at noon; Yuzu says an arcade cabinet is possessed; Sera warns not to trust the student council; Rika challenges the player to race to the station. Each starts or strengthens that character’s future social link, with Rika also affecting Courage.
- Study at the library to raise Knowledge, with an optional cursed-index choice that raises Proficiency.
- Work a café shift to earn money and raise Charm or Courage; the café includes gossip about a velvet door beneath the register.
- Open a city map leading to arcade, gift shop, shrine stairs, café, and night investigations.

City routes should include: an arcade scene with Yuzu and a ghost cabinet, where fair play or trash talk changes affinity; a gift shop purchase of black roses for Rei costing ¥800, followed by her note “Obvious. Not unwelcome”; shrine stairs where Ayame discusses kindness and loss; and a night patrol under the rail line where shadows take human shapes. Night patrol choices let the player chase a lead alone for Courage, send Rei an address, send Hana a voice note, or dare the shadows. End with the night scene: Hoshizora Ward is swallowed by darkness, a velvet-blue door opens briefly beneath the tracks, and “Day 1 complete — the year has begun.” Allow replaying the afternoon choice or checking the phone before sleep.

Implement meaningful progression state. Track day, month, date, weekday, current time slot, location, funds, scene ID, and history. Begin with funds of ¥3,000. Track five social stats—Knowledge, Charm, Courage, Proficiency, and Kindness—each starting at 1 and capped at 5, displayed as horizontal bars. Track all eight confidants with name, arcana, rank starting at 0, hidden affinity, dating status, and reversed status. Display the confidant list in a desktop side panel with rank labels and arcana/affinity details. Choice effects should visibly update stats and funds while affinity remains part of progression; allow rank-up attempts when enough hidden affinity is accumulated. Include mobile-friendly touch and keyboard accessibility, with Enter/Space activating focused choices and a keyboard shortcut for opening the utility/settings panel.

Add an optional adult-cast presentation setting that changes the core cast into college/young-adult roles and replaces school wording with campus, seminar, orientation-hall, and adult-student language. It should alter displayed text while preserving the same supernatural plot and routes. Keep romance mature in tone but do not show explicit sexual content; do not implement guardian, faculty, or minor romance. The finished experience should feel like a polished neon supernatural visual novel prototype: mostly text, choices, relationship/stat management, atmospheric scene changes, and a clear day/time calendar structure.
