Make your own game

Map of Misadventure was built by Zusette Eringstad with the Cinevva game creator: describe the game you want in chat, watch it get built, and play it in your browser minutes later.

Remix Map of Misadventure opens the real game in the creator and forks its actual files, chat and design doc, so you start from the code rather than from a description.

Read the build brief for Map of Misadventure

Cinevva's analyzer read this game's design doc and its source, then wrote the brief below. "Make your own" hands it to the game creator as your opening message, so you start from a real spec rather than a one-line idea.

Create a responsive full-screen 2D click/tap adventure map game titled "Map of Misadventure." Use a single HTML canvas filling the viewport, with a fixed HUD layered above it. The visual style is a whimsical antique treasure-map: a warm tan/brown diagonal gradient background, faint hand-drawn circular contour rings and scattered brown dots, plus sparse emoji-like map decorations (clouds, pine trees, a duck, an anchor) and a small north indicator in the upper-right. Use Georgia/serif typography throughout.

At the top center, show a dark plum translucent rounded panel with a gold/tan border and shadow reading "THE MAP OF MISADVENTURE" in uppercase bold lettering. At bottom-left, show a dark translucent rounded status panel with a gold border. Initially it says "Expedition 1/6", "Tap the glowing landmark to begin.", and "Next: The Gate of Bad Decisions". At bottom-right, show a small legend panel reading "Tap a landmark • Arrow keys / WASD also work" (hide this legend on narrow/mobile screens).

Draw six circular landmarks connected in sequence by one continuous route: use a thick dark-brown dashed line with a thin pale-gold line over it. Positions are normalized to the canvas: Gate (.16,.24), Bog (.38,.42), Tower (.68,.27), Market (.62,.66), Cave (.28,.73), and Chest (.82,.78). Each landmark is a dark purple circle with a pale-gold outline and a centered icon, except the current active landmark, which is a larger golden/orange circle with a bright cream outline and a pulsing glowing outer ring. Completed landmarks turn muted green. Put the location name beneath each circle in bold dark brown text. The exact landmark names and icons are: "The Gate of Bad Decisions" with a door icon, "The Suspicious Bog" with a log icon, "Tower of Mildly Accurate Legends" with a lighthouse/tower icon, "The Crooked Market" with a basket icon, "The Cave of Dramatic Echoes" with a cave/hole icon, and "The Treasure of Absolutely No Tax Forms" with a diamond icon. Include a small player marker: a burgundy circle with a cream outline and a compass icon, initially at normalized position (.12,.86), then move it to each selected landmark.

The core interaction is sequential discovery. Only the currently glowing landmark can advance the expedition. The player can tap/click a landmark (accept clicks within roughly 9% normalized distance), or press ArrowRight, D, ArrowDown, or S to activate the current landmark. Activating the wrong/unavailable landmark does nothing. ArrowLeft, A, ArrowUp, or W should not move the player; instead update the status with the humorous message: "Konstapel Stel insists the map is upside down. It is not." Once the correct landmark is activated, mark it discovered, show its clue modal, update the status message to "Clue secured. The map smells faintly of victory.", move the compass marker to that landmark, and advance to the next location. The status should display the expedition count as current step out of 6 and the next landmark name. For the final chest, use the message "The final chest is open." and mark the game finished, with status text: "Treasure claimed!" followed by "Fröken Svensson gets the gold. Konstapel Stel gets the invoice." No further landmark activation should work after completion.

When a landmark is activated, show a clue panel at the upper-right (below the title), dark plum and translucent with a pale-gold border, containing the landmark name, its clue and story text, and a button labeled "Continue the expedition." The six exact clue/story pairs are:
1. Gate: clue "The map begins where courage goes to file a complaint." Story "Fröken Svensson says the first clue is hidden in plain sight. Konstapel Stel says plain sight is overrated and checks the shrubbery anyway."
2. Bog: clue "Cross the bog without losing your dignity." Story "A frog in a tiny waistcoat demands the password. The password is “please”. Nobody knows why this works."
3. Tower: clue "Find the bell that rings once for treasure." Story "The tower keeper claims the bell only rings for heroes. Konstapel Stel pulls the rope. It rings for bureaucracy."
4. Market: clue "Trade a useless object for a useful clue." Story "Fröken Svensson trades a damp sock, three buttons, and a suspicious wink for a brass key."
5. Cave: clue "Answer the echo before it insults you." Story "“Who goes there?” asks the cave. “A treasure hunter,” says Fröken Svensson. “Try harder,” says the cave."
6. Chest: clue "Open the chest and claim your prize." Story "Inside: gold, a map to more gold, and a note reading: “Please stop leaving muddy footprints on the paperwork.”"
The clue panel starts hidden and has a close/continue button; Escape also hides it.

Keep the map and HUD legible on both desktop and portrait mobile layouts. Continuously redraw the canvas with requestAnimationFrame so the active landmark ring pulses. Use touch-friendly controls and a minimum 44px button height. The game should be an interactive playable expedition, not a slideshow; there are no combat systems, inventory systems, timers, lives, or enemies beyond the written humorous story text.
