Make your own game

Hollowwake was built by 24_Muhammad Nafis Dzulfahmi with the Cinevva game creator: describe the game you want in chat, watch it get built, and play it in your browser minutes later.

Remix Hollowwake opens the real game in the creator and forks its actual files, chat and design doc, so you start from the code rather than from a description.

Read the build brief for Hollowwake

Cinevva's analyzer read this game's design doc and its source, then wrote the brief below. "Make your own" hands it to the game creator as your opening message, so you start from a real spec rather than a one-line idea.

Create a playable 2D side-view pixel-art dark-fantasy metroidvania slice titled “Hollowwake.” Render the world to a small low-resolution canvas (320x180) and scale it to fill the browser with nearest-neighbor/pixelated scaling. Use a very dark navy, plum, and muted purple palette, chunky rectangular pixel sprites, hard-edged platforms, sparse star/dust pixels, and a monospace UI. The camera should follow the player horizontally and slightly vertically, with three-layer parallax silhouettes in the background.

Opening screen: show the game world dimly behind a large centered dark translucent panel with a purple-gray border and black offset shadow. The panel title is HOLLOWWAKE in spaced gold lettering, followed by: “A pixel-art dark fantasy metroidvania slice.” and “Awaken beneath a broken bell. Find the Moonseed. Descend into Veilroot and face the guardian that remembers the catastrophe.” Provide NEW GAME, CONTINUE, CUSTOMIZE, and CONTROLS buttons. CONTROLS explains: A/D move, Space jumps, double jump after awakening the Moonseed, Shift dash, left mouse attack, E interact, M map, TAB inventory, and ESC pause.

Player and controls: the player is a tiny masked/hooded wandering warrior, with a pale square face, dark mask, muted purple cloak/body, tiny legs, and a small gold weapon glint. Start in the Bell Ruins at approximately the left side of the room with 80/80 Vitality and 100/100 Aether. Use A and D for acceleration and horizontal movement, Space for a jump, and allow a second jump only after the Moonseed is awakened. Gravity is strong, platforms are solid from above, and the player can move across and jump between platforms. Constrain the player within the room edges; falling out of the room causes death and returns the player to the current room checkpoint after a short delay with full health. Face the direction of movement. Left mouse performs a short-range melee attack with a bright gold pixel slash in front of the player, subject to a brief cooldown. Shift performs a fast horizontal Ash Dash only after the Rootglass Relic is collected and costs 25 Aether; Aether regenerates gradually.

HUD: fixed overlay with a top-left red VITALITY bar and numeric value, blue AETHER bar and numeric value, and a gold star-coin count starting at 18. In the upper-right, show a bordered QUEST panel whose text progresses from “Find a living voice in the Bell Ruins.” to “Recover the Moonseed from Veilroot Caverns.”, then “Defeat the Rootbound Warden in the Sanctum.”, and finally “The seal is broken. The kingdom remembers.” Show a bottom control hint matching the controls above. When near a character or doorway, show a gold-bordered interaction prompt near the bottom center.

Build exactly three connected rooms with separate platform layouts and labels. Room 1 is “Hollowwake · Bell Ruins,” a dark navy ruined bell chamber: a broad floor platform across the bottom, raised platforms around x/y positions equivalent to (35,118), (118,92), (186,126), and (258,82), plus a right-side exit to Veilroot. Place two NPCs: Mira, a pale purple-clad scribe, and Orin, a smith with reddish clothing. Place small moth and crawler enemies and a gold pickup worth 8 coins. The right exit is a purple doorway.

Mira is the first required quest interaction. When the player presses E near her, she says “Mira: The bell rang beneath the world. Find the Moonseed.”, changes the quest to finding the Moonseed, unlocks the discovered Veilroot map area, grants the Moonseed inventory item, and unlocks double jump, with a feedback message such as “MOONSEED AWAKENED · DOUBLE JUMP.” Orin is a shop-like smith: if the player has at least 10 star-coins, pressing E near him spends 10 and increases maximum Vitality by 10 while healing to full; otherwise he says to bring ten star-coins.

Room 2 is “Veilroot Caverns,” a dark purple cavern with a broad lower floor and staggered platforms equivalent to (12,110), (76,78), (150,118), (210,62), (270,104), and a lower-right platform. It connects back to the Bell Ruins on the left and has a sealed-looking upper/right exit to the Sanctum. Populate it with crawlers, a moth, and two larger brutes. Include Talla, a teal-clad merchant. Pressing E near Talla spends 6 coins to restore Aether to maximum and displays “Talla sells a blue ember. Aether restored.” if affordable, otherwise she requests six coins. Include a cyan Rootglass Relic pickup near the upper platforms; collecting it adds “Rootglass Relic” to inventory and unlocks the Ash Dash with the message “ROOTGLASS RELIC · ASH DASH.”

Room 3 is “Rootbound Sanctum,” a dark magenta/purple chamber with a broad bottom floor and three raised platforms. It is reached through the Veilroot exit only after the gate is opened. Before then, pressing E at the doorway displays “SEALED — DEFEAT THE GUARDIAN.” Place the boss, THE ROOTBOUND WARDEN, as a large dark crimson/maroon pixel creature with a shadowy head and gold eyes. Display a centered boss health bar at the top whenever it is present. The Warden has 34 HP, takes damage from the player’s melee attack, periodically attacks if near the player, and becomes more dangerous below half health. Defeating it triggers gold particles, grants 30 coins and a “Warden Key” inventory item, sets the seal/gate open, changes the final quest text, and displays “THE SEAL HAS BEEN BROKEN.” Afterward the player can interact with the opened seal/exit to receive the same confirmation.

Enemies should be simple chunky pixel creatures: pale purple moths, green crawlers, and larger plum brutes. They patrol or move toward the player at short range, have small health pools (moths/crawlers 2 HP, brutes 5 HP), hurt the player on contact with cooldowns, flash pale when hit, and drop star-coins when killed (2 for ordinary enemies and 5 for brutes). Use small square particle bursts for attacks, damage, dashes, pickups, and boss defeat. Add floating monospace message text above the player for dialogue and unlock feedback.

Implement pause and utility screens: ESC opens a centered PAUSED panel with Resume, Inventory, Map, and Customize. TAB opens PACK & RELICS, listing collected relics, unlocked skills (Moonseed Double Jump and Ash Dash), and cosmetics. M opens MAP OF THE BROKEN KINGDOM, showing Bell Ruins discovered, Veilroot discovered after Mira, and Rootbound Sanctum as SEALED until the boss is defeated; before Veilroot is revealed, state that the map merchant can reveal hidden paths. Customize opens a WARDROBE OF ASH panel describing cosmetics as separate from power and listing Mask: Ash Veil, Cloak: Dusk, and Weapon: Riftblade. Preserve the restrained, atmospheric presentation: no detailed illustrations, only crisp pixel silhouettes, muted backgrounds, purple borders, gold accents, health/energy colors, and minimal dark-fantasy UI.”,
