About Void Drifter

Navigate your ship through a barrage of asteroid waves, using precise mouse aiming to blast through enemies that shatter into fragments. Master movement with WASD or arrow keys, as you dodge and fire your way to a high score while managing hull damage and explosions.

How to play

Click the game above and it runs right here in your browser. No download, no installer, no account needed. Davonya Joy built it with Cinevva, so it works on a phone or a tablet too.

Make your own game

Void Drifter was built by Davonya Joy with the Cinevva game creator: describe the game you want in chat, watch it get built, and play it in your browser minutes later.

Remix Void Drifter opens the real game in the creator and forks its actual files, chat and design doc, so you start from the code rather than from a description.

Read the build brief for Void Drifter

Cinevva's analyzer read this game's design doc and its source, then wrote the brief below. "Make your own" hands it to the game creator as your opening message, so you start from a real spec rather than a one-line idea.

Create a fullscreen 2D top-down arcade space shooter titled “Void Drifter,” set in a dark, nearly black-blue void with a subtle radial blue glow centered slightly above the middle and a field of small twinkling pale-blue stars. Use a responsive HTML canvas that fills the viewport, with crisp neon vector-like graphics and no external assets.

The player controls a small angular spaceship positioned near the center. Draw it as a bright pale-cyan/white triangular dart pointing toward its current aim direction, with a cyan outline and glow, plus a small orange engine flame at the rear. The ship has inertia: WASD or arrow keys accelerate it in the corresponding directions, velocity is strongly damped, speed is capped, and the ship wraps around screen edges rather than stopping. Aim continuously toward the mouse cursor and rotate the ship to face the cursor. Fire bright cyan glowing shots toward the cursor with mouse click/hold or the Space key; shots travel quickly, inherit a small amount of ship velocity, have a short lifetime, and fire at roughly 0.15-second intervals. On touch devices, provide two translucent circular controls near the bottom corners: a left virtual movement zone and a right virtual fire zone.

Populate the playfield with irregular rotating asteroids. Spawn them from screen edges or just beyond the edges, moving generally toward the center with randomized direction variation. Use three sizes: large asteroids around radius 42, medium around 28, and small around 17. Each asteroid should be an irregular polygon with a dark blue-gray translucent fill, bright cyan-blue outline, and soft cyan glow; vary its number of vertices, rotation, spin, and hue slightly. The game begins with seven small asteroids, while a timed spawner continuously adds mostly medium asteroids and sometimes large ones, with spawn intervals becoming shorter as waves increase. When a shot hits an asteroid, remove the shot and asteroid, emit a cyan particle burst, award points (100 for large, 180 for medium, 300 for small), and split every large or medium asteroid into two smaller asteroids spawned nearby. This should visibly create fragmenting asteroid explosions.

Asteroids and the ship collide. On collision, reduce the hull by 30 for a large asteroid, 20 for a medium asteroid, or 12 for a small asteroid, trigger a pink/red explosion particle burst and brief camera shake, and grant the ship about 1.2 seconds of invulnerability with a blinking ship. Start with 100% hull. When hull reaches zero, stop the game and show a centered game-over modal titled “Ship Lost,” with text displaying the final score and wave and a “Restart” button. Keep score, wave, and hull updated live.

When all asteroids are cleared, advance the wave and create a new group of asteroids: approximately 5 plus twice the new wave number, with a chance of large asteroids. The HUD must be fixed over the canvas: at the top, three evenly spaced stats labeled in uppercase with letter spacing—SCORE, WAVE, HULL—and large bright values beneath them. Display score with thousands separators and hull as a percentage; change the hull value to pink/red when it drops below 35%. At the bottom-left show the help line “WASD / arrows move · mouse aims · click / space fires · P pauses.” Press P to toggle pause behavior.

Before play begins, show a centered translucent dark navy rounded-rectangle launch panel with a thin blue-gray border and soft shadow. It should display the large uppercase title “VOID DRIFTER,” the instruction text “Destroy the asteroid swarm. Move with WASD or arrows. Aim with the mouse and fire with click or space.” and a bright aqua rounded “Launch” button. Clicking Launch, pressing Enter, or clicking the canvas should start/reset the game. Preserve the minimal futuristic visual language: dark navy background, muted blue HUD labels, bright cyan ship/projectiles/asteroid outlines, orange thruster, pink damage effects, soft glows, subtle stars, and responsive layout. On coarse/touch pointers show the two circular touch zones and hide the keyboard help text.
