Make your own game

Reef Rangers was built by Ruby-May Hayward with the Cinevva game creator: describe the game you want in chat, watch it get built, and play it in your browser minutes later.

Remix Reef Rangers opens the real game in the creator and forks its actual files, chat and design doc, so you start from the code rather than from a description.

Read the build brief for Reef Rangers

Cinevva's analyzer read this game's design doc and its source, then wrote the brief below. "Make your own" hands it to the game creator as your opening message, so you start from a real spec rather than a one-line idea.

Create a kid-friendly 3D exploration/adventure game titled “Reef Rangers,” set in a bright toy-like ocean surrounding a small beach island. Use a third-person perspective with a perspective camera that follows the player from behind and above at roughly an 8, 8.5, 10 offset, smoothly tracking and looking at the avatar. Before starting, show an intro lineup of the cast in the ocean: Captain Fin in the center, Sammy, Shelly, Mia, and Leo nearby, with name labels above the characters. The world should use simple cheerful low-poly/geometric forms, readable colors, soft lighting, a light-blue sky dome, blue water, fog, floating decorative coral rocks, and a sandy island with a green grass top and one small tree. Keep the overall presentation friendly and non-threatening.

The player is Captain Fin, a bright cyan patterned fish made from rounded spheres/cones with a body, fins, tail, dark eyes, and a floating “Captain Fin” label. Start the game with a full-screen START overlay explaining the climate-help adventure, listing the cast and controls. The player moves with WASD or arrow keys, and uses Space to interact. The game begins only when the player clicks START; clicking/starting also enables simple cheerful synth sounds. The fish swims in the water and cannot enter the island. Movement should be smooth/accelerated, bounded within a small rectangular ocean map, and the follow camera should track the fish. Add an animated floating arrow/beacon that points toward the current objective.

Build the quest sequence exactly as follows:
1. CLEAN THE OCEAN: Place eight floating red trash cubes at random safe positions in the water, away from the island. They bob and rotate. When Captain Fin swims within about 1.05 units, automatically collect/hide the cube, increase the counter, and add 7 Planet Health. The quest HUD reads that Captain Fin wants to clean the ocean and displays “Collect the red trash cubes (collected/8).” Nearby prompts explain to swim into trash; otherwise prompt the player to find the red cubes. After all eight are collected, advance to the rescue quest.
2. RESCUE SHELLY: Place Shelly, a green patterned sea turtle with a shell, head, flippers, and “Shelly” label on the left side of the map, surrounded by a gray torus-knot-like fishing net and a rotating green glowing ring. Sammy is a yellow patterned sardine helper who flits around the player and has a “Sammy” label. The player must swim near Shelly/the net and press Space. Hide the net and ring, mark Shelly rescued, add 22 Planet Health, play a positive sound, and advance. After rescue, Shelly slowly swims around the nearby seagrass area instead of remaining trapped.
3. CLEAN ENERGY ON THE BEACH: Put a small grassy/sandy island toward the right side of the map, with Mia (pink shirt, human volunteer) and Leo (purple shirt, human builder), each with labels. Place two solar stations on the island: dark square bases, tilted blue solar panels, and blue glowing rings, named/understood as Station A and Station B through the prompts. The fish cannot walk onto the island, so place a Hermit Crab Buddy near the shore. The buddy is a toy-like orange crab with a tan shell, claws, eye stalks, and a label. In this quest, Space near the buddy changes the player form to the Hermit Crab Buddy and moves the player onto the beach. In crab form, the player can move on land but is blocked from deep water; hide the fish and show the crab. Space near each solar station activates it, makes its panel glow cyan, hides its ring, increments the station counter, adds 18 Planet Health, and plays a sound. The HUD instructs the player to activate both stations and explains the crab transformation. After both are active, advance to planting.
4. PLANT SEAGRASS: Place five green glowing rings at fixed water positions around the map. The crab form should be able to return to the water/shore as appropriate, while the player follows the nearest unplanted green ring. Near a ring, pressing Space plants a clump of seven small green seagrass blades, hides that ring, increments the planted counter, adds 8 Planet Health, and plays a sound. The HUD displays “Plant seagrass to help the ocean (planted/5).”
5. WIN: Once all five seagrass spots are planted, fill/clamp Planet Health to 100, show a full-screen celebration overlay saying “You did it!” and “Cleaner oceans + clean energy = a healthier planet.” Include a “Play again” button that reloads/restarts the game. Spawn brief light-blue bubbles around the player during the win celebration. There is no scary fail state.

Add a persistent HUD over the 3D scene. In the top-left show the white title “Reef Rangers.” In the top area show “Planet Health,” a rounded horizontal progress bar with a gradient from red through yellow to green, and a numeric value such as “0 / 100.” At the bottom-left show a translucent dark quest card with the heading “Quest,” multiline objective text and progress counters, a contextual prompt, and colored cast chips for Fin (cyan), Shelly (green), Sammy (yellow), Mia (pink), and Leo (purple). Include a control hint reading “Move: WASD/Arrows • Interact: Space.” Add quest narration using browser text-to-speech: a Voice On/Off button, Test button, and volume slider; narrate the current quest when it changes, using friendly quest language. Use simple sound effects for collecting trash, rescuing Shelly, activating solar stations, planting, and a short ascending victory melody. Ensure UI is large, high contrast, rounded, and readable for children, with translucent dark panels over the bright 3D environment.
