Make your own game

Los Angeles Open Drive was built by Adrian Gabriel with the Cinevva game creator: describe the game you want in chat, watch it get built, and play it in your browser minutes later.

Remix Los Angeles Open Drive opens the real game in the creator and forks its actual files, chat and design doc, so you start from the code rather than from a description.

Read the build brief for Los Angeles Open Drive

Cinevva's analyzer read this game's design doc and its source, then wrote the brief below. "Make your own" hands it to the game creator as your opening message, so you start from a real spec rather than a one-line idea.

Create a browser-based 3D open-world driving and walking game titled “LOS ANGELES — OPEN DRIVE.” Use Three.js-style WebGL rendering with a third-person, over-the-shoulder camera that follows the player or car from behind and slightly above. Set the scene against a bright sky-blue background with light atmospheric fog, soft shadows, warm sunlight, and a stylized low-poly city aesthetic using modular city-kit assets.

Build a bounded Los Angeles-inspired map on a large tan terrain plane, with a sandy beach and blue Pacific Ocean along the west side and a narrow blue Los Angeles River running through the map. Lay out multiple straight road segments in a loose grid, including north/south and east/west streets. Populate the districts with recognizable but stylized landmarks and props: tall downtown skyscrapers in the south/north area, commercial storefront buildings around Hollywood and Koreatown, repeated suburban houses in Beverly Hills/Bel Air, sparse industrial/commercial buildings in South LA/Inglewood/Vernon, rows of palm trees beside the beachfront, green rounded Hollywood Hills, a small Griffith Observatory-like cylindrical building with a dome, and a row of white block letters representing a Hollywood sign.

The player begins on foot around the Hollywood/West Hollywood area at approximately the center of the map. Represent the pedestrian as a simple blue capsule-like character. Place a sedan at the same starting location, initially hidden until entered. The player can walk freely across the map, and can enter or exit the sedan when close to it. Entering hides the pedestrian and shows the car; exiting hides the car and places the pedestrian at the car’s position. While driving, use the same free movement system but make the car move faster, rotate it toward its travel direction, and keep the pedestrian synchronized with the car position. Clamp both walking and driving movement to the playable map bounds.

Controls: on desktop, WASD moves relative to the camera direction, and E or Space toggles entering/exiting the nearby sedan. On touch devices, show a translucent virtual joystick in the lower-left; dragging it moves the character or car. Dragging on the right half of the screen rotates the camera horizontally and adjusts its vertical pitch within a modest range. Use pointer capture and release the joystick when the touch ends. The camera should smoothly follow the current target, staying about 11 units behind and 6–7 units above it, looking toward its upper body/vehicle.

Add ambient life and traffic. Spawn about 14 sedan traffic cars on the roads, moving continuously along either the x or z axis at varied slow speeds, wrapping around the map edges. Spawn about 10 animated casual pedestrian NPCs distributed around the roads and districts; play their walking animation and give them gentle wandering movement. Cars and NPCs should cast/receive shadows where appropriate. There is no combat, collision system, mission system, fuel, health, timer, or score gameplay; the core activity is freely exploring Los Angeles on foot or by car.

Render a fixed canvas HUD over the game. In the upper-left, show a dark translucent rectangular panel with the title “LOS ANGELES — OPEN DRIVE” and a light-blue current district label. Update the district label according to location: “Santa Monica / Venice” in the west, “Hollywood Hills / Griffith” in the far north, “Hollywood / West Hollywood” in the Hollywood area, “Koreatown / Downtown” in the central area, “East Los Angeles / River” in the east, and “South Los Angeles / Inglewood” elsewhere. In the upper-right, show a smaller translucent panel indicating either “A PÉ” when walking or “DIRIGINDO” when driving, plus the instruction “E / Espaço: entrar/sair.” In the lower-left draw the circular translucent joystick and its movable inner knob, with the Portuguese hint “arraste para mover”; on the lower-right show “arraste à direita para olhar.” Use Portuguese interaction labels exactly as displayed while keeping the game title in English. Include a simple loading screen reading “Carregando Los Angeles…” while external 3D assets load, and an error message if loading fails.

Use a bright, clean, low-poly presentation with tan ground, blue water, palms, blocky buildings, visible shadows, and a spacious exploratory camera framing. The initial composition should make the red/orange player sedan and roads prominent while the HUD remains readable over the sky and city.
