I asked for a change and I'm not sure if it made it into the game or not. How do I tell?

After a change, reload the preview and try the exact thing you asked for. If it's a control, press the key or button; if it's visual, look for it on screen. If nothing changed, say so specifically, for example "I reloaded but the jump still doesn't work," and the assistant can check whether the code was applied. Being concrete about what you tried and what you saw is the fastest way to confirm or fix it.
