Make your own game

Rune Blades was built by zdixon321 with the Cinevva game creator: describe the game you want in chat, watch it get built, and play it in your browser minutes later.

Remix Rune Blades opens the real game in the creator and forks its actual files, chat and design doc, so you start from the code rather than from a description.

Read the build brief for Rune Blades

Cinevva's analyzer read this game's design doc and its source, then wrote the brief below. "Make your own" hands it to the game creator as your opening message, so you start from a real spec rather than a one-line idea.

Create a browser-based top-down 3D action RPG slice titled “Rune Blades,” using a fixed orthographic camera that looks straight down at a small arena and follows the player. Render a deliberately blocky, pixelated 32-bit style with simple flat-shaded box geometry: a dark green checkerboard grass floor made of large square tiles, sparse blocky trees around the distant perimeter (brown cubical trunks with green cubical foliage), and a dark atmospheric background/fog. The player is a small block-built knight centered in view: blue square body, peach square head, pale metal helmet, and a visible colored rectangular sword held at the side. Enemies are simple blocky square creatures with red bodies and two pale eyes on early levels; use orange-brown enemies from levels 4–7 and purple enemies from levels 8–10. Enemies spawn in a ring away from the player, continuously chase the player, rotate toward them, and deal contact damage over time. The arena has no walls; clamp player movement to the playable bounds.

Core gameplay: start at level 1 with 100/100 HP, a Wood plank weapon with base power 5, and a wave of 5 enemies. Move with WASD or arrow keys, with normalized movement and player facing in the movement direction. Attack nearby enemies using K for a normal attack, J for a slower heavy attack, and L for a quick spammable attack; clicking/tapping the arena also performs a normal attack toward the clicked direction. Attacks are radial melee hits around the player, show a brief golden wedge/ring slash effect, damage every enemy within the attack’s range, produce small colored cube burst particles, knock enemies back, and have distinct cooldowns and damage/range: heavy is slow but powerful, normal is balanced, and fast has the shortest cooldown but lower damage. Include a small chance of critical hits and support rune bonuses to damage, speed, lifesteal, crit, and knockback. Killing enemies causes the remaining wave to replenish when it gets low. Defeat 4 + current level enemies to advance; on advancing, heal 35 HP (up to max), increase luck for future weapon drops, and spawn a fresh wave. Clear all 10 levels to win; dying at zero HP ends the game.

Loot and progression: each enemy death has a 25% chance to drop one weapon, but only if no loot is already on the ground. Dropped weapons visibly appear as a rotating blocky sword (colored blade and brown hilt) and show an on-screen prompt when the player is within 1.75 units: “E equip · R stash.” Press E to equip it, automatically saving the old equipped weapon into the inventory if there is room; press R to stash it. Use a 16-slot inventory. Weapon tiers, in increasing power, are exactly: Wood plank (5), Sharp plank (8), Busted sword (12), Wood sword (16), Burnt iron sword (22), Iron sword (30), Ion blade (42), Atomizer blade (58), Tungsten-Bedrock Blade (78), and OMEGA BLADE (110). Give each tier a distinct material color, with increasingly futuristic/high-tier colors (cyan, pink, dark bedrock, gold). Use weighted random drops, and make higher levels shift the weighted odds toward better tiers. The equipped HUD blade changes color to match the weapon.

Inventory behavior: pressing I on keyboard or BAG on mobile pauses the game and opens a dark framed inventory overlay. Show a four-column desktop grid of 16 weapon slots (two columns on narrow/mobile screens), selectable item cards, each showing tier, total power, and rune count. A selected stashed weapon can be EQUIPPED, swapping the prior equipped blade into that slot, or RUNIFIED. RUNIFY adds one random rune to that weapon, up to 4 runes per weapon, and displays its name, bonus, and effect. Include exactly 100 named runes and cycle their effects among damage, speed, lifesteal, crit, and knockback; rune bonuses increase by name index. Use named examples such as Ash, Ember, Spark, Storm, Frost, Venom, Vampire, Swiftness, Omega, Cursed, Blessed, and Final Rune, while retaining the complete 100-rune collection. If inventory is full, explain that the dropped weapon cannot be stashed.

HUD and presentation: overlay the game with dark translucent panels, chunky brown/gold borders, cream pixel-RPG typography and subtle text shadows. Upper-left panel says RUNE BLADES and shows Level 1 / 10, kills toward the current target, an orange-red HP bar, HP value, and keyboard controls. Upper-right panel says EQUIPPED BLADE and shows the tier, total Power, and equipped rune summaries. Show centered toast messages for drops, equips, level advancement, rune application, defeat, and victory. Show a bottom-center loot interaction prompt when close enough. On mobile, display translucent touch controls: a four-button directional pad at bottom-left, J/K/L attack buttons at bottom-right, and a BAG button. Make the experience responsive and preserve the clean top-down arena view behind the HUD.
