Make your own game

Rocktower Shell was built by Gabe with the Cinevva game creator: describe the game you want in chat, watch it get built, and play it in your browser minutes later.

Remix Rocktower Shell opens the real game in the creator and forks its actual files, chat and design doc, so you start from the code rather than from a description.

Read the build brief for Rocktower Shell

Cinevva's analyzer read this game's design doc and its source, then wrote the brief below. "Make your own" hands it to the game creator as your opening message, so you start from a real spec rather than a one-line idea.

Create a compact 2.5D side-view platforming/metroidvania game titled “ROCKTOWER SHELL.” Render it in Three.js-style chunky low-poly 3D primitives with an orthographic camera: gameplay is viewed from the side, with platforms and characters given visible depth, a dark navy-black background, subtle fog, cool blue-gray lighting, and rocky gray geometry. The world is a vertical rocky tower with a broad start cavern at the bottom, a left-side cave, a blocked route to the right, ascending ledges, a climbable rock spine, and a summit arena.

Player: a small stylized turtle made from chunky primitives. Use a green rounded shell, tan blocky body and head, and a tiny dark eye. The player starts around the lower center-left on the ground, with 5 HP. Horizontal movement uses A/D or Left/Right with acceleration, drag, and a capped speed. Space jumps, including a short coyote-time forgiveness and jump buffering. W or Up climbs upward while the turtle overlaps the climbable rock wall; jumping while climbing performs a jump away from the wall. The turtle faces its movement direction. J triggers a short-range shell-spin attack only after the ability is collected; visibly rotate/tilt the turtle briefly during the attack and enforce a short cooldown.

Level layout: begin on a wide ground platform in a cavern. Include several raised starting steps to the right and a patrol slime. On the far left, build a side cave from raised rock platforms at progressively higher positions; place a floating, rotating cyan/teal faceted icosahedron pickup there. Touching it grants “Shell Spin,” hides the pickup, and changes the HUD ability indicator from NO to YES. Near the right side of the starting area, place a large brown cracked boulder blocking the upward path. It is a solid collision object until struck by the shell-spin hitbox; one successful J attack breaks it and removes it from the collision geometry. The objective text should guide the player first to find Shell Spin, then to return right and break the boulder.

Beyond the destroyed boulder, make the tower climb upward through staggered gray rock ledges. Add a tall darker climbable rock face/spine on the right side, allowing the player to hold W/Up and scale vertically. Continue with alternating ledges around the tower at increasing heights, leading to a large summit platform. Use darker rectangular background rock columns behind the playable geometry to create the cavern/tower silhouette. Place two simple summit torches: dark cylindrical posts with small glowing orange spherical flames.

Enemies: add several bright green low-poly slime enemies that patrol back and forth over defined platform ranges. They have 2 HP, bob subtly, and hurt the turtle on contact. A falling attack/stomp from above can damage a slime and bounce the turtle upward; shell spin hits also deal one damage, while a slime is removed when defeated. Contact damage should knock the turtle backward and upward. Place slimes in the lower starting area, near the tower base, and on higher ledges.

Boss: place the Evil King in the summit arena as a chunky red rectangular body with a gold crown. It has 12 HP and requires repeated shell-spin hits. It becomes active when the player reaches the upper summit region, faces toward the player, and periodically fires slow blue glowing spherical projectiles in the player’s direction with an upward component; projectiles arc under gravity, disappear when they hit solids, hit the player, expire, or fall away. The boss also damages the player by contact and is constrained within the summit arena. On each hit, provide a brief hit flash/invulnerability window. Defeating the Evil King is the win condition.

Collision and rules: use axis-aligned rectangular collision for the player, solids, slimes, the boulder, boss, and projectiles. Apply gravity to the player and enemies, resolve horizontal and vertical collisions against rock platforms, and cause falling below the level to deal lethal damage. The turtle has temporary invulnerability after taking damage. The boulder gate, pickup, enemies, boss, and projectiles must reset when R is pressed.

HUD: overlay a large bold white uppercase “ROCKTOWER SHELL” title at the upper left. Along the top, show the controls exactly in spirit as “A/D move • Space jump • W/↑ climb • J spin • R restart.” Below, show status such as “HP ♥♥♥♥♥ Spin: YES/NO” and an objective that updates through: find the Shell Spin and break the boulder; return right and use J to break it; or climb to the summit and defeat the Evil King. Keep the UI clean and bright against the dark scene. On death, when HP reaches zero, stop gameplay and show a centered dark overlay with “You Died” and “Press R to restart.” On victory, stop gameplay and show “Victory” with “You defeated the Evil King. Press R to play again.”

Use small synthesized triangle-wave beeps for jumping, taking damage, collecting the pickup, attacking, enemy hits, boss hits, and boss projectile firing. Keep the overall presentation minimal, geometric, and arcade-like: chunky rock blocks, simple primitive characters, muted gray-blue environment, green turtle/slimes, teal ability pickup, red crowned boss, and glowing orange summit flames.
