About Parade Orders

Lead a marching formation from the whistle: call attention, turns, halt, salute, and baton cues while the drum major faces the troops. Keep cadence with drums, cheers, and clean cutoffs.

How to play

Click the game above and it runs right here in your browser. No download, no installer, no account needed. Katrina Rainbow built it with Cinevva, so it works on a phone or a tablet too.

I think the controls should be easier on this game

But overall good

Make your own game

Parade Orders was built by Katrina Rainbow with the Cinevva game creator: describe the game you want in chat, watch it get built, and play it in your browser minutes later.

Remix Parade Orders opens the real game in the creator and forks its actual files, chat and design doc, so you start from the code rather than from a description.

Read the build brief for Parade Orders

Cinevva's analyzer read this game's design doc and its source, then wrote the brief below. "Make your own" hands it to the game creator as your opening message, so you start from a real spec rather than a one-line idea.

Create a 3D marching band command simulation from an elevated diagonal camera perspective looking down at a striped parade field. The camera is positioned at approximately (0, 13, 20) looking at the formation center, following the drum major and formation as they move.

**Field & Environment:**
- Large green parade ground (58×58 units) with thin horizontal white yard-line stripes every 4 units and a prominent vertical gold centerline down the middle
- Orange traffic cones placed along the sidelines as field markers
- Sky-blue background with distance fog
- Three flagpoles with red, white, and blue flags positioned behind the formation
- Two crowd stands on opposite sidelines, each with 3 tiers of benches holding 7 fans per tier (21 fans per side, 42 total). Fans have varied shirt colors (yellow, red, blue, white, green, purple) and skin tones, with visible heads, torsos, and raised arms

**Characters - Formation (12 soldiers):**
- 12 soldiers arranged in 3 rows of 4, wearing matching dark green long-sleeve uniforms, dark green shorts, black boots, and dark green berets
- Each soldier has varied skin tones (light tan, brown, dark brown variations), visible faces with dark eyes, and dark hair under berets
- All face the same direction (initially north/+Z) and turn in unison when commanded
- Soldiers cast shadows and have simple humanoid proportions with visible legs extending below shorts

**Characters - Drum Major:**
- Positioned in front of formation (initially at z=2.85) wearing the SAME uniform as soldiers (dark green long-sleeve shirt, shorts, boots, beret) PLUS white gloves
- Holds a gold baton with white knobs on each end in right hand
- Silver whistle visible at mouth when blown
- Faces the formation (opposite direction from soldiers - 180° rotated)
- Stands on a gold circular podium marking starting position
- Beret tilts slightly as character moves

**Characters - Assistant Drum Major:**
- Positioned to the left of the main drum major (at x=-2.0, z=2.72)
- Wears identical uniform to drum major (same green uniform, white gloves, gold baton)
- Has a text label above reading "Assistant DM"
- Also faces the formation
- Participates in flag ceremonies

**Characters - Drumline (4 female members, front row):**
- Positioned in front of soldiers (z=-3.25), evenly spaced left to right
- All wear the same dark green uniform as soldiers
- From left to right:
  1. **Kathy** (x=-2.65) - Snare drum: Single white circular drum with silver rim, carried on black harness with two wooden drumsticks
  2. **Nicki** (x=-0.9) - Quads: Four white tom drums arranged in a quad setup with silver rims
  3. **Zelyon** (x=0.9) - Bass drum: Large white bass drum, noticeably bigger than other instruments
  4. **Ann** (x=2.65) - Cymbals: Two gold hand cymbals held in playing position
- Each has a floating text label above showing name and instrument (e.g., "Kathy — snare")
- Instruments mounted on black harness straps across chest
- All have visible drumsticks/mallets appropriate to their instrument

**HUD & UI (bottom and top-right):**
- Large circular gold "WHISTLE" button in bottom-right with whistle icon and stick figure
- Bottom command bar with buttons:
  - "Attention" (tan/gold color, shows selected state)
  - "Forward march" (dark green)
  - "Left turn" (dark green)
  - "Right turn" (dark green)
  - "Halt" (dark green)
  - "Salute" (dark green)
- Additional baton command buttons below: "Baton up", "Baton spin", "Mark time", "Cut off" (all dark)
- Drumline solo buttons: "Kathy solo", "Nicki solo", "Zelyon solo", "Ann solo"
- Top-left: Title "Parade Orders" in large gold serif font
- Below title: Status text in white explaining current state (e.g., "Formation ready. Pick Attention, Forward March, Left Turn, Right Turn, or Halt.")
- Top-right: Dark green panel showing "SCORE" label and large white score number (starts at 0)

**Gameplay & Mechanics:**
1. Player selects a command button at bottom (highlights in gold/tan when selected)
2. Player taps large WHISTLE button to issue the command
3. Drum major shows whistle-blowing animation with white puff effect appearing in front of mouth
4. Drumline members animate their instruments down from carry position, set up (0.62s), then play a short musical response phrase (2.1s total)
5. Formation responds to command:
   - **Attention**: All stop and stand at idle
   - **Forward march**: All march forward in current direction with marching legs animation, cadence drum music starts
   - **Left/Right turn**: Formation rotates 90° in place in that direction
   - **Halt**: Formation stops, cadence music ends
   - **Salute**: Soldiers raise right arm to forehead in salute pose
6. Score increases with each whistle command (+5 to +20 points based on rhythm timing relative to drum cadence beats)
7. Drum major always faces formation (180° opposite to soldier facing direction)
8. Baton commands (issued without whistle):
   - **Baton up**: Baton vertical, soldiers idle
   - **Baton spin**: Baton spins rapidly
   - **Mark time**: Soldiers march in place, cadence plays
   - **Cut off**: Cadence stops cleanly, all idle
9. Drumline solo buttons trigger individual featured performances: selected member's instrument bounces/scales up, plays extended solo pattern, crowd reacts more intensely (+25 points)
10. Crowd stands react to commands: fans bounce vertically, wave arms up/down, and slight torso rotation. Bigger reactions (higher bounces, faster arm waves) for salutes and drumline solos

**Audio (Web Audio synthesis, no external files):**
- Whistle: High-pitched multi-tone beep (square + triangle + sine waves, ~1860-3320 Hz, 0.18s)
- Snare drum: Filtered white noise burst (highpass 1250Hz, 0.09s)
- Bass drum: Low sine wave pitch drop (92→43 Hz, 0.22s)
- Cymbal: Filtered noise with long decay (highpass 5200Hz, 0.25s)
- Procedural cadence: Alternating snare/bass pattern at 360ms intervals with cymbal every 8 beats
- Crowd cheer: Bandpass-filtered noise envelope (950Hz, varies 0.72-1.05s duration)

**Animation & Movement:**
- Formation marches forward at 1.55 units/sec when "Forward march" is active, continuing until "Halt" or other command
- Marching creates subtle vertical bobbing (±0.025 units) and leg movement implied by animation
- Smooth rotation when turning (lerp rotation over time)
- Drumline instruments tilt from carry angle (-0.55 radians) to playing position (0 radians) during setup
- During play/solo, drumsticks rotate and bounce in rhythm with music
- Drum major's baton performs different motions per baton command: vertical hold (Up), rapid spin (Spin), rhythmic wave (Mark Time), sharp cutoff pose (Cut Off)
- Camera follows formation center smoothly, maintaining overhead diagonal view
- Whistle puff sprite scales up and fades out over 0.5s
- Salute animation shows extended right arm group visible when salute active

**Flag Ceremony (special command):**
- Triggered by FLAG button (6th command)
- Assistant drum major presents colors at flag ceremony set (x=0, z=-6.4)
- Flag ceremony features gold base, tall silver pole, and American flag (blue field, red/white stripes)
- Flag raises up pole during ceremony
- "FLAG CEREMONY" text label appears above
- Formation salutes during ceremony (5.2s duration)
- Crowd gives sustained cheer reaction

**Lighting & Rendering:**
- Hemisphere light (sky color light blue, ground greenish)
- Directional sun from position (-10, 16, 8) casting shadows
- All characters, instruments, cones, flags cast dynamic shadows on ground
- Soft shadow mapping (PCF, 2048×2048)
- ACES filmic tone mapping
- Slightly warm sun color (0xfff4d4)

**Art Style:**
- Low-poly 3D with smooth shading
- Simple geometric shapes for accessories and instruments
- Realistic military parade/marching band aesthetic
- Muted military greens with gold/white accents
- Clean, organized formation layout emphasizing precision and discipline

**Controls:**
- Touch/click command buttons to select, then click WHISTLE to execute
- Keyboard: 1-6 select whistle commands, Space blows whistle, 7-0 trigger baton commands, Q/W/E/R trigger drumline solos (Kathy/Nicki/Zelyon/Ann)
- F key selects Flag Ceremony command

The game simulates the experience of directing a marching band formation through parade commands, emphasizing timing, cadence, and coordinated group response with a complete drumline and engaged crowd atmosphere.
