Make your own game

Mad Chess was built by Stormix with the Cinevva game creator: describe the game you want in chat, watch it get built, and play it in your browser minutes later.

Remix Mad Chess opens the real game in the creator and forks its actual files, chat and design doc, so you start from the code rather than from a description.

Read the build brief for Mad Chess

Cinevva's analyzer read this game's design doc and its source, then wrote the brief below. "Make your own" hands it to the game creator as your opening message, so you start from a real spec rather than a one-line idea.

Create a responsive, touch-friendly browser chess variant titled “Fous & Furieux” (English title/context: “Mad Chess”), with the author blurb/theme “Chess game played only with bishops.” The entire interface is in French. Use a dark deep-teal page background and a centered single-column layout that fits a mobile viewport, with a maximum width around 760px. At the top, show the small uppercase subtitle “VARIANTE D'ÉCHECS”, the large cream/gold title “Fous & Furieux”, and a decorative black bishop symbol at the right. Beneath it, show a rounded dark-teal status bar with the current turn message on the left and live piece counts on the right, initially “À toi de jouer” and “Blancs 8 · Noirs 8”.

The main game is an 8x8 chessboard inside a thick rounded gold/wood-colored frame with a subtle bright inset edge and shadow. The board alternates pale cream squares and muted sage-green squares, has a dark border, and labels every square with coordinate text in the upper-left corner: files a–h and ranks 8–1, so the top row reads a8 through h8 and the bottom row a1 through h1. Place exactly eight white bishops across the entire bottom row (a1–h1) and exactly eight black bishops across the entire top row (a8–h8); all other squares start empty. Render the pieces as large Unicode bishops, white as ♗ and black as ♝, with contrasting colors, gold/cream edging or shadow, and a dark drop shadow for a slightly illustrated board-game look.

The only legal piece movement is bishop movement: a selected bishop may slide any number of unobstructed squares along any of the four diagonals. It may stop on empty squares or capture one opposing bishop, but cannot move through any occupied square and cannot land on a friendly bishop. Clicking/tapping a friendly bishop selects it; outline the selected square with a bright pale-gold inset outline. Mark every legal empty destination with a small gold circular dot and every legal capture destination with a red ring around the square. Clicking a legal destination performs the move, clears the selection, increments the move count internally, and switches the turn. Clicking another friendly piece changes selection; clicking an invalid square clears the selection.

Provide two modes. In the default one-player mode, the human controls white and black is controlled by a simple computer opponent. While it is black’s turn, prevent human board interaction and show “Les noirs réfléchissent…”. After a short delay (about 420ms), the AI enumerates all legal black bishop moves, prioritizes moves whose destination contains a white bishop (captures), and otherwise chooses among moves with a small random element. In two-player mode, both sides are controlled by board taps, the mode button reads “Mode : 2 joueurs”, and the status alternates between “Tour des blancs” and “Tour des noirs”. The default mode button reads “Mode : 1 joueur”.

The goal is to eliminate every bishop on the opposing side. Update the score bar after every move as “Blancs N · Noirs N”. In one-player mode, if all black bishops are captured, show a win state such as “Tu as gagné !” and a toast saying “Échec… et mat version fous !”; if all white bishops are captured, announce “Les noirs ont gagné !”. If the black AI has no legal moves, end the game and toast “Les noirs sont bloqués. Tu gagnes !”. In two-player mode, announce “Les blancs gagnent !” or “Les noirs gagnent !” as appropriate. Disable further play after game over.

Below the board, show the instructional text: “Chaque pièce est un fou : déplace-les en diagonale, capture les fous adverses et élimine toute l'équipe noire.” Add three rounded cream/gold action buttons: “Nouvelle partie”, “Mode : 1 joueur”/“Mode : 2 joueurs”, and “Indice”. Restart resets the original 8-versus-8 setup, white to move, and the selected mode, with a brief pill-shaped toast (“Nouvelle partie”, or “Partie à deux joueurs” when applicable). The mode button toggles modes, resets the board, and shows a toast such as “Tu affrontes les noirs” or “Les blancs commencent”. The hint button works during the human white turn: if a capture exists, select one capturing move and toast “Une capture est disponible !”; otherwise select a random legal white move and toast “Essaie une diagonale”; if no move exists, toast “Aucun coup possible…”. Toasts should appear temporarily near the bottom center as pale-gold rounded pills.

Use accessible button-like board squares, pointer/touch input, large readable typography, high-contrast cream/gold text, rounded panels, and responsive sizing so the board remains square and usable on small screens. Preserve the visual style shown: elegant dark teal background, sage-and-cream chessboard, gold frame, bishop-only gameplay, and playful French presentation. Do not add standard chess pieces, check/checkmate rules, pawns, castling, promotion, timers, or extra game systems.
