Make your own game

Codex Expanse was built by Leopold James Colson-Bennett with the Cinevva game creator: describe the game you want in chat, watch it get built, and play it in your browser minutes later.

Remix Codex Expanse opens the real game in the creator and forks its actual files, chat and design doc, so you start from the code rather than from a description.

Read the build brief for Codex Expanse

Cinevva's analyzer read this game's design doc and its source, then wrote the brief below. "Make your own" hands it to the game creator as your opening message, so you start from a real spec rather than a one-line idea.

Rebuild a playable Three.js-style 3D exploration game titled “Codex Expanse.” Use an elevated third-person follow camera looking down at a small surveyor avatar from behind, with smooth camera lerp. The world is a dark blue, low-poly/voxel-like fantasy “Shifting Expanse”: a circular flat ground area about 36 units in radius, deep navy background and fog, soft blue ambient lighting plus a warm directional sun, and several thin glowing cyan concentric archive-distance rings on the ground. Scatter low-poly fantasy props around the field: stylized trees near the perimeter, glowing blue crystals, and many mushrooms. Use Quaternius-like low-poly assets where available, including a dragon, armored bee creature, bird/vrock, trees, crystals, and mushrooms.

The player begins near the center at approximately (0, 0, -4). Represent the surveyor as a simple capsule-like golden/yellow body with a dark head visor that emits a subtle cyan glow. Movement is top-down/elevated 3D: WASD and arrow keys move in the four horizontal directions, with diagonal input normalized; also provide a touch/mobile virtual joystick in the lower-left on coarse-pointer devices. The avatar rotates to face its movement direction, moves at approximately 8.2 units per second, has smooth acceleration/deceleration, and is constrained inside the circular field (about 33 units from center).

The core goal is to explore and catalog all seven nearby encyclopedia entries by approaching their world objects. Discovery happens automatically when the player comes within the entry’s discovery radius plus about 1.8 units. Once discovered, show a gold toast reading “New codex entry: [name]” and add the entry permanently to the Field Encyclopedia panel. The seven fixed points of interest are: Bullette of the Folding Dunes at (-14, -8), represented by a rotating stone pedestal with a floating cream page and warm tan glow; Otyugh of the Compost Moon at (10, -13), represented by a green relic pedestal and floating page; Vrock of the Cawing Index at (18, 7), represented by a moving low-poly bird/vulture-like creature; Stirge Swarm Notation at (-18, 12), represented by a cloud of 11 small reddish flying cone-like bugs; Shelf-Dragon of Red Volume IX at (0, 20), represented by a low-poly dragon; Armabee Marginalia Queen at (-4, -22), represented by a low-poly armored bee creature; and The Shifting Expanse Index Gate at (0, 0), represented by a bright cyan archive relic/gate. Keep the exact descriptive encyclopedia text: Bullette: “A landshark-like burrower. Its encyclopedia plates rearrange themselves whenever the desert moves.” Otyugh: “A patient refuse-sage with three opinions about every rotten thing. It is harmless unless surprised.” Vrock: “A vulture-demon scholar whose feathers remember extinct alphabets. It charges to defend its footnotes.” Stirge: “Tiny blood-seeking asterisks. They mark living pages, then scatter before any conclusion can be reached.” Dragon: “A flying catalog guardian. It breathes warm dust, not fire, to preserve old manuscripts.” Armabee: “An armored bee-beast that stores lost creature names in its honeycomb carapace.” Gate: “The first bookmark in an impossible encyclopedia of 450,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 mythical creatures.”

Creatures and the stirge swarm should behave as gentle hazards: they drift around their areas, and if the player comes within the close collision range, they knock the player backward rather than damaging or killing them. Moving hazards approach the player when within roughly 10 units; the dragon is slower than the bird/swarm. Relics rotate and their floating pages bob vertically. On collision, apply a strong outward impulse, briefly disable normal steering, increment a Knockbacks counter, and show “Knocked back — not defeated.” There must be no health bar, lives, damage, game-over, or defeat state: impacts only bounce the player away and exploration continues. Discovery can occur on contact with any point of interest, including hazards.

Create a glassy dark HUD over the game with translucent navy panels, rounded corners, subtle cyan borders, and white/cyan/gold typography. In the upper-left show the title “CODEX EXPANSE” and subtitle: “Survey a shifting world cataloging 450,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 mythical creatures. No death — impacts only knock you back.” In the upper-right show live stats exactly in this style: “Seen: [discovered count] / 7”, “Knockbacks: [count]”, and “Region: [current region]”; start with Region: Index Gate and update it to the discovered entry’s leading name (for example “Bullette” or “Shelf-Dragon”). In the lower-right show a scrollable “Field Encyclopedia” panel with the discovered entries and descriptions, or initially “Approach a creature or relic to add its entry.” In the lower-left show help text: “Move: WASD / Arrow keys. Explore glowing archives, crystals, mushrooms, and creatures. If something hits you, you bounce away and keep exploring.” On mobile, show a circular translucent joystick with a glowing cyan knob above the help area. Use a dark atmospheric palette, glowing cyan rings/crystals/visor, warm gold pages and player body, and low-poly fantasy models. The experience is a peaceful cataloging expedition with exactly seven collectible entries and an endless-feeling impossible encyclopedia theme, not a combat game.”,
