Make your own game

Chunkforge was built by Charlie with the Cinevva game creator: describe the game you want in chat, watch it get built, and play it in your browser minutes later.

Remix Chunkforge opens the real game in the creator and forks its actual files, chat and design doc, so you start from the code rather than from a description.

Read the build brief for Chunkforge

Cinevva's analyzer read this game's design doc and its source, then wrote the brief below. "Make your own" hands it to the game creator as your opening message, so you start from a real spec rather than a one-line idea.

Create a first-person 3D voxel sandbox game titled "Chunkforge". Use Three.js or an equivalent WebGL 3D engine with a blocky, Minecraft-like world made from cubic blocks, a perspective first-person camera, directional sunlight, hemisphere fill light, shadows, and distance fog. The visual style should be simple low-poly geometry with flat colored materials: bright blue sky, green grass and trees, dark brown dirt, gray stone, blue translucent water, pale translucent glass, warm orange lamps, and subdued nighttime lighting. Begin with a centered blue rounded "Tap / Click to Start" button over the world; clicking it starts the game and locks the mouse on desktop.

Generate an effectively open voxel world in 16x16 horizontal chunks and 64 vertical blocks high. Load/render a square area around the player (roughly three chunks in each direction, with a little buffer), unloading distant chunks. Generate terrain deterministically from 2D smoothed hash/noise: varied hills approximately around elevations 16–43, with stone deep underground, several layers of dirt, and a grass surface. Put water at sea level 18 in low areas. Occasionally grow simple trees on higher ground, consisting of a five-block vertical log trunk and a compact leafy canopy. Mesh only exposed block faces and shade top, side, and bottom faces differently. Include editable blocks: stone, dirt, grass, log, leaves, glass, water, signal dust, and lamp; air is empty. Water and leaves/glass should be translucent, water should sit slightly below the top face, and neighboring water faces should be hidden.

The player is a small capsule-like collision volume represented through the first-person camera rather than a visible body. Spawn near (0, terrain surface + 2, 0). Implement solid voxel collision, gravity, jumping, falling damage/death if the player drops below the world, and movement relative to camera yaw. WASD or arrow keys move, Space jumps, and Shift sprints when hunger is above 1; movement speed is slower in water. Add mouse-look with yaw and clamped pitch after pointer lock. Also support touch devices with a left virtual movement pad, right virtual look pad, and buttons for Jump, Mine, Place, and Mode.

Implement two modes. Survival starts with Health 20/20, Hunger 20/20, Armor 0, normal five-block reach, timed mining, finite inventory, hunger drain while moving/sprinting and slow passive drain while idle, and health damage when hunger reaches zero. Creative mode is toggled with C or the mobile Mode button; it restores health/hunger, gives infinite hotbar blocks, instant mining, 32-block reach, and enables flight. F toggles flight; in flight, movement is freely vertical with Space up and Left Control down. R respawns at the starting location and resets health/hunger; on death respawn and display a message that inventory dropped at spawn (the visible implementation need only reset the player as shown).

Use a bottom-center hotbar with eight slots, keyboard number selection 1–8, and these exact slot contents and starting survival quantities: 1 Stone 18, 2 Dirt 30, 3 Grass 8, 4 Log 10, 5 Leaves 16, 6 Glass 8, 7 Water 12, 8 Lamp 4. Highlight the selected slot with a yellow border/glow. Left click continuously mines the targeted block under a centered white crosshair; right click places the selected block against the face hit by the ray. Prevent placing inside the player. In survival, mining speed depends on block hardness and the player's pickaxe tool, while the simplified player tool is a pickaxe; creative mining is instant. Show brief floating status messages such as "Mined Stone", "Placed Dirt", "No blocks left", and mode/flight notifications. Raycast should ignore water and logic dust as mine targets, and show a white wireframe outline around the current target block.

Add simple hostile green blocky mobs: a dark green rectangular body and lighter green cube head. During daytime, periodically spawn them at random positions roughly 18–36 blocks from the player, up to nine active mobs, on terrain surfaces. They move directly toward the player within 32 blocks, face the player, and attack at close range for 3 damage about once every 1.1 seconds. Do not spawn them during the nighttime interval. Include a day/night cycle: advance time continuously, brighten/dim the directional sun, switch the sky and fog between bright blue daytime and dark navy nighttime, and make nighttime visibly darker.

Build the HUD as translucent dark rounded panels over the game. At top left show: "Chunkforge — Survival" or "Creative", Health, Hunger, Armor, Reach, "Flight ON" or "Ground", current chunk coordinates, mob count, and either the current target block plus mining progress or "No target". At top right show the desktop help text: "Click to lock mouse. WASD move, Space jump, Shift sprint, Left click mine, Right click place, 1-7 select block, C creative/survival, F flight, R respawn." Keep the centered crosshair visible. On coarse/touch screens hide the help panel and show the two translucent circular pads and four blue action buttons. Ensure the scene fills the viewport and the interface is responsive with safe-area spacing.
