Make your own game

Backcourt Buzzer was built by Joseph Morris with the Cinevva game creator: describe the game you want in chat, watch it get built, and play it in your browser minutes later.

Remix Backcourt Buzzer opens the real game in the creator and forks its actual files, chat and design doc, so you start from the code rather than from a description.

Cinevva's analyzer read this game's design doc and its source, then wrote the brief below. "Make your own" hands it to the game creator as your opening message, so you start from a real spec rather than a one-line idea.

Recreate a minimalist browser-based 3D basketball buzzer-beater game titled “Backcourt Buzzer.” Use a Three.js-style real-time 3D scene with a dark navy/black background and fog, a large flat deep green basketball court, subdued pale blue court markings, and simple low-poly geometry with cool blue lighting. The camera is a third-person over-the-shoulder camera positioned behind and slightly to the side of the player, looking toward the hoop at the far end; it smoothly follows the player as they move. Keep the scene sparse and arcade-like rather than photorealistic.

Game objective and loop: begin in a READY state with a 15.0-second countdown. The player must move into the backcourt and make one basket before time reaches 0.0. A made basket only wins if the player was standing in the backcourt at the instant the shot was taken. Shots made from too close to the hoop still count visually as makes but do not win. The timer starts when the player first moves or shoots. When the clock expires, show a centered dark translucent results overlay stating “Time!”, with a result of “MADE (not from backcourt)” if there was a make that did not qualify, otherwise “NO MAKE.” When a qualifying shot goes in, show a “Buzzer Beater!” win overlay with “You hit it from backcourt:” and “WIN.” Include a Restart (R) button and support the R key to reset.

Court and scene: make a broad rectangular green floor with a pale blue outline rectangle, a half-court line, an approximate three-point arc, and a clearly visible backcourt boundary line at z=6. Put the player initially around the center of the backcourt at z=8.5, with the hoop at the opposite end around z=-18. Mark the backcourt with a pulsing cyan/blue glowing ring on the floor around z=10.5; the player is considered in backcourt when their z position is at least 6.0. Build a simple hoop: pale rectangular backboard, orange-red torus rim, faint translucent pale-blue cone-like net, and a dark vertical support pole. The player is a small cyan glowing capsule/person marker. The ball is a small orange sphere with dark seam hints, held just ahead of the player when inactive and visibly spinning while airborne.

Movement and aiming: support W/A/S/D movement across the court, with normalized movement and roughly 8.5 units/second speed. Clamp the player within the court boundaries. The player faces the hoop. Prevent the player from passing too close to the moving defender by cancelling movement that would bring them within about one unit. Mouse movement aims: map cursor position across the viewport to a small horizontal and vertical shot offset around the rim center; show a small pale crosshair near the camera center/forward view. Left click or Space shoots, and only one ball can be airborne at a time. The shot uses a physics-like parabolic trajectory aimed at the rim plus the mouse offset, with flight time based on distance, gravity, tiny random velocity jitter, and ball spin. Reset the ball to the player’s hands after a miss or made shot so the player can try again quickly.

Challenge: add one simple red/pink capsule-shaped defender or blocker near midcourt at z=-2. It continuously moves side to side across roughly 7.5 units with a smooth sine-wave motion. If the airborne ball intersects it, mark the attempt “BLOCKED!”, play the miss feedback, and return the ball to the player after a short delay. Also resolve a miss when the ball hits/bounces off the floor, or if it flies too long/far. A make occurs when the descending ball crosses the horizontal rim plane and is within the rim radius. Play simple Tone.js-style sound effects: a bright short synth tone for a make, a low drum tone for a miss/block, and a longer buzzer tone when the run ends.

HUD: place a fixed top-left overlay over the canvas with three rounded, translucent dark pills bordered subtly in blue. Display “CLOCK” and the countdown formatted to one decimal, “MADE” and the current made count, and “BACKCOURT” with YES or NO reflecting the player’s current location. Underneath, show instructional/status text such as “WASD to move — get to backcourt and hit the shot” and “Mouse aim + Click/Space to shoot • Press R to restart,” changing it during play for messages such as “15 seconds — go!”, “SWISH — backcourt bucket!”, “Swish… but too close.”, “BLOCKED!”, “Miss.”, and “Time is up.” Use white/light lavender typography, compact system sans-serif text, subtle shadows, and a dark translucent centered end-of-run panel with rounded corners and a blue-gray border. Keep the visual presentation clean, dark, sparse, and readable, matching a simple low-poly court viewed from behind the shooter.
