Make your own game

Air Hockey Pub was built by Sami Mahieddine with the Cinevva game creator: describe the game you want in chat, watch it get built, and play it in your browser minutes later.

Remix Air Hockey Pub opens the real game in the creator and forks its actual files, chat and design doc, so you start from the code rather than from a description.

Read the build brief for Air Hockey Pub

Cinevva's analyzer read this game's design doc and its source, then wrote the brief below. "Make your own" hands it to the game creator as your opening message, so you start from a real spec rather than a one-line idea.

Create a browser-playable 3D air-hockey game titled “Air Hockey Pub,” using a fixed third-person perspective from the near end of a long table. The camera should be a 55-degree perspective camera positioned above and behind the player’s end, looking toward the far end of the table; keep the whole playfield and the UI visible. Render with soft shadows, ACES-style filmic lighting, fog, and a dark warm pub atmosphere.

Scene and art direction: Build a stylized low-poly air-hockey table in a dim wooden pub. The table is approximately 5.8 units wide and 9.2 units long, with a chunky dark reddish-brown wooden body and inset, brass/golden rails around a dark blue-green playing surface. Add a bright pink glowing center line across the width of the table, small cyan glowing air slots/dots arranged near both ends, and dark goal openings centered in the short end rails. Surround the table with a shadowy pub room: dark floor, back and side walls, a wooden bar counter and back bar on the right/rear, bar stools, vertical wooden beams, neon-colored wall lights/sign elements, a dartboard, and a few colored bottles. Use warm amber key lighting with cyan and pink accent point lights. Load/show a stylized animated old-fashioned pub character named Barnaby standing behind the far end of the table facing the player, with an idle animation if available. The player mallet is at the near end and the opponent mallet is at the far end.

Gameplay: This is one-player air hockey against an AI opponent called Barnaby. The player controls a red/orange cylindrical mallet with a cream-colored glowing ring; Barnaby uses a blue cylindrical mallet with a cream ring. A small cream/white puck starts in the middle. At the start of each serve, reset both mallets to the center of their respective halves (player around z=-2.6, AI around z=+2.6), place the puck at center, give it a randomized diagonal starting velocity (horizontal direction randomly left/right and vertical direction randomly toward either end), wait about one second, then begin moving it. The puck slides continuously, bounces off the left and right rails, and bounces off the end rails unless it is aligned with the centered goal opening (about 1.8 units wide). If the puck enters the near goal, Barnaby scores; if it enters the far goal, the player scores. After a point, show a short feedback message, reset for another serve, and continue until one side reaches 7. At 7, stop gameplay and show “YOU WIN!” or “BARNABY WINS”; allow Restart to begin a fresh 0–0 match.

Paddle physics: Detect circular mallet/puck collisions. On impact, reflect the puck velocity from the collision normal and add velocity based on the mallet’s recent movement, so moving the mallet into the puck produces a stronger shot. Increase speed slightly after hits but clamp puck speed to a minimum around 3.1 and maximum around 10.4. Keep the player mallet restricted to the horizontal bounds of the table and the near half only; keep the AI mallet restricted to the far half. The AI should track the puck’s projected horizontal position and smoothly move its mallet left/right, while staying near its defensive z position around 2.55. Use collision/impact sound effects for mallet hits, rail bounces, and scoring when browser audio is available.

Controls: Move the mouse over the canvas to guide the player mallet. Convert the mouse position into a ray cast onto the horizontal plane of the table, then clamp the mallet inside the player half and table rails. Clicking/tapping the canvas may unlock or initialize audio. Provide keyboard R as an additional restart shortcut, and a visible Restart button in the upper-right corner.

HUD and text: Overlay a fixed HUD above the 3D scene. Put the title “AIR HOCKEY PUB” in small uppercase cyan text with letter spacing at upper-left and a subtle neon glow. Center a dark translucent rounded scoreboard pill along the top showing “You” and the score on the left, a dash in the middle, and “Barnaby” and the AI score on the right. Start both at 0. Put the Restart button at upper-right with a dark brown fill, gold border, cream text, and rounded corners. Display transient centered messages such as “READY,” “PLAY,” “POINT!,” “THE PUB CHEERS,” and the final win message with a fade. At the bottom center, show a dark translucent pill reading “Move the mouse to guide your mallet · First to 7 wins.” Make the layout responsive for narrow screens while preserving the game canvas full-screen.
