Papo Episode 01: The Lost Firefly

Papo the Panda

  • Trait: Kind ("Kind of shy but super nice. Gentle, thoughtful, and quietly caring. Not the loudest in the room but deeply empathetic. The heart of the group who notices when others need help.")

Story (10-15 seconds)

Papo sits alone at the edge of a bamboo grove on Cubcoat Island at twilight. A single firefly flickers weakly nearby, struggling, about to fall. Papo notices. He's shy, hesitates. Then he cups his paws gently around the firefly. It brightens in his warmth. He lifts his paws open and the firefly rises, glowing gold, joined by dozens more that fill the grove with warm light. Papo smiles softly.

Emotional arc: Shyness → kindness → warmth → wonder.

Theme: Small, quiet kindness can light up the whole world.

This is a short cinematic moment (about 20-30 seconds), not a playable game. No player controls needed. It auto-plays on load with a "Watch Again" button at the end.

Story beats

The cutscene has 4 beats, each with a camera move:

  1. Establishing shot (4s): Camera slowly pushes in through a twilight bamboo grove. Soft blue-purple light. Gentle fog. A small panda character (Papo) sits alone on a mossy rock, looking down. He's round, black and white, cartoon proportions, big gentle eyes. Mood: quiet, a little lonely.

  2. The firefly (4s): A single particle (warm amber glow) drifts down weakly, flickering, sinking toward the ground near Papo. Camera tracks it. Papo's head lifts and turns to notice. His eyes follow the struggling light.

Visual style

  • Storybook / soft 3D cartoon. Think Pixar short film or a children's book come to life.
  • Generate a skybox using the Storybook style: "twilight bamboo forest on a magical island, soft purple and blue sky, first stars appearing, gentle mist between bamboo stalks, warm and peaceful"

Papo (the character)

Build Papo as a simple 3D character using basic Three.js geometry:

  • Body: white sphere (slightly squished vertically) with a round black-and-white panda pattern
  • Head: larger sphere on top, with black eye patches (flat circles), big round dark eyes (glossy spheres), small black nose, tiny smile
  • Ears: two small black half-spheres on top of the head
  • Arms: short cylinder stubs that can rotate at the shoulder
  • Make him sit on a mossy rock (green-tinted rough sphere)
  • He needs 3 poses: sitting idle (slight breathing motion), reaching forward (arms extend), and arms open upward (palms up, releasing)

Environment

  • Bamboo stalks: vertical green cylinders with segment rings, scattered around the scene. 15-20 stalks at varying heights and distances.
  • Ground: dark green/brown plane with subtle noise texture
  • Mossy rock: irregular sphere with green tint where Papo sits
  • Fog: FogExp2, starting subtle, thickening into the background
  • One soft directional light (blue-purple moonlight from above-right) and a dim ambient light

Firefly particles

  • Start with 1 firefly (a small glowing sphere with PointLight, amber color). It drifts down slowly, flickering (oscillate opacity and light intensity with sine wave).
  • When Papo cups his paws: the single firefly brightens, color shifts to warm gold, light radius increases.
  • When Papo opens his paws: spawn 40-60 firefly particles that float upward from the bamboo grove. Each is a small glowing sprite with slight random drift. They have staggered spawn timing (not all at once) over about 3 seconds. They rise gently and spread outward.

Music

Generate background music: "gentle lullaby, soft piano and strings, warm and tender, children's storybook feel, slow tempo, peaceful with a swell of warmth in the second half, 30 seconds"

Camera system

Use the scripted cutscene pattern from the system prompt. Array of steps with duration and easing (use sine or cubic easing, no linear). Camera should feel like a slow, deliberate dolly through the scene. Smooth transitions between shots.

End screen

After the cutscene fades to black, show centered white text on black: "The Lost Firefly" (use a soft storybook font from Google Fonts), with a smaller line below: "a Cubcoats moment" and a "Watch Again" button that replays the whole sequence.
