Recommendation: Use I2V with pre-composed start frames from OpenAI. The start frame IS the character reference. This means OpenAI scene frames must show the character correctly (right design, expression, pose, lighting) because Kling will animate forward from that exact image.

I'm creating a short animated episode using these reference images as the visual foundation. Here's what you need to know:

Project: Cubcoats animated short, Episode 6: "Papo and the Thorny Thicket"

Visual style: 3D animated Pixar-style rendering. The Kali images (pink cat character) show the exact quality target: smooth soft-touch vinyl/plush material on characters, cinematic lighting with motivated warm keys and cool ambient fills, shallow depth of field, volumetric fog, and atmospheric particles. Characters look like designer toys brought to life, not realistic animals.

Characters in this episode:

  • Papo the Panda (main character): Small round baby panda with classic black and white markings, big gentle dark eyes, round belly, small paws. His personality trait is "Kind." He is quiet, compassionate, never lectures. He just stays with people. The two 3D panda images I uploaded are the locked design. All Papo images must match this look exactly.

  • Loran (human boy, age 10): Messy brown hair, kind brown eyes, simple earth-toned tunic, brown pants. Timid, gentle, awkward. A genius engineer who doesn't know his own worth. The animated GIF I uploaded shows his design from the original pitch deck.

  • Ailah (human girl mage, age 10): Purple/lavender skin, long straight dark hair, deep blue-purple mage robes, bright violet eyes. Brash, talented, stubborn, but capable of real honesty. The animated GIF I uploaded shows her design.

  • The Cubs (supporting): Bori (purple bear, leader), Pimm (golden puppy, curious), Flynn (orange fox, creative), Kali (pink kitty, positive), Tomo (orange tiger, brave). They appear in group scenes. The character portfolio image shows them all.

The story: After being bullied for being human by a group of mages, and having Ailah fail to stand up for him, Loran feels worthless and runs away at night into the dangerous Thorny Thicket. Papo, the quiet gentle panda, goes after him alone. He finds Loran, sits with him, doesn't lecture or try to fix anything. He just stays. That presence is the rescue. They walk back together. Ailah apologizes. The episode ends with earned peace around a campfire.

What I need from you: I will ask you to generate images one by one. Each image will be either a character reference sheet, an environment concept, or a specific scene frame (start frame or end frame for a video clip). Every image must be consistent with the visual style shown in the reference images I uploaded. The characters must look the same across every image. I'll tell you exactly what each image should show.

Aspect ratio: All images should be 16:9 horizontal (widescreen cinematic) unless I specify otherwise.

Step 5: Generate Scene Frames

Each scene needs start and end frames for Kling. Generate them in story order so OpenAI maintains visual consistency. Reference previous outputs in each prompt.

Scene 1: Loran Leaves

Prompt 5.1.1 (Start frame)

Using the night camp environment you generated and the Loran character, create this scene: Night. The campfire is dying. Several small animal characters (from the Cubcoats portfolio I uploaded) sleep in bedrolls around the fire. Loran sits apart from the group, at the edge of the firelight, staring at the ground. His expression is sad and withdrawn. Medium-wide shot, Loran in the right third of frame, campfire and sleeping Cubs in the left two-thirds.
